My therapy journey has been long and winding. It started in college when every student received six free sessions at the student counseling office. My senior year I figured I wasn't going to leave anything on the table, so I did the sessions. Since then I've gone from therapist to therapist, across the various cities where I've lived, looking to form a long term relationship with someone. Instead I usually never made it past the first two sessions before deciding this person wasn't right for me. Even with all the false starts it's been important for me to find a good therapist because I believe in the value of mental health -- and I don't want to turn my friends into unofficial therapists (well except for one, you know who you are). But now I finally found a professional who's helping me fix my life and work through my shit. Here's hoping my journey inspires anyone else struggling to find the right match.
